Music

Young children love to sing, and lessons taught through song tend to stick with us through life. Beginning in preschool, your Saint Bernadette Catholic School  student will participate in joyful and interesting weekly music classes. Students are exposed to a wide variety of musical genre and use a variety of instruments including shaker eggs, rhythm sticks, boomwhackers, and ukuleles as they learn to read music, to keep a steady beat, and to sing on pitch.

In grades PK-5, your child will participate in our annual Christmas program, and, beginning in 3rd grade, your student will be invited to learn and sing a variety of liturgical music by participating in our school choir. Our school choir leads the singing at school Masses. Children are also encouraged to join the parish Saturday Vigil Mass Children’s Choir. Students with a particular musical talent are encouraged to share their gifts with our community by taking solo parts or accompanying our choir. If your child has an interest in music and a gift to share, we will provide the opportunity to shine!

Students in middle school dive deeper into musical content. Lessons are inventive, based on the interests of the students, and often employ technology and encourage creative thinking.

The long-standing Saint Bernadette Catholic School band program had its origin in 1981. Beginning in grade 4, your student will be invited to participate in band, select an instrument, and participate in weekly small-group lessons. Your child will start off in our Beginner Band, and will move into our award-winning Advanced Band as skills improve.

The Garwood Whaley Band Program at Saint Bernadette Catholic School will teach your child to read music, to play an instrument, to be a team player, and to grow in responsibility through daily practice.

Through participation in the music program at Saint Bernadette Catholic School, your child will grow in appreciation of music and will gain skills important for life!
