The St. Bernadette Drama Club/St. Bernadette Players is an after school activity opened to all St. Bernadette Students. Its purpose is to expose Elementary and Middle School students to the theater arts. Run by volunteers, the club puts on two productions during the school year, the Winter Play and the Shakespeare Play. Parents of participating students are required to volunteer in some way and a fee of $35.00 is charged per student to cover various production expenses.
The Winter Play
This production is opened to students in 1st - 8th Grades and involves three to four short Christmas themed plays that are performed for the school (during the school day) and for parents in an evening performance in mid- December. Students rehearse one day a week after school.
The Shakespeare Play
The production is opened to students in 6th – 8th Grades. Its purpose is to expose Middle School students to William Shakespeare’s famous plays and characters. Auditions are held at the end of January/early February and students will rehearse once or twice a week. The students will perform a 30-minute-long play at the Arlington Diocesan Shakespeare Festival held in mid-May and will have the opportunity to see other plays performed by other diocesan middle schools. In addition, the students will present the play for the school (during the school day) and for their parents at an evening performance.
