Knitting Club

The Saint Bernadette Catholic School Youth Knitting Club will enter into its fifth year in the 2023-24 school year. Membership is open to all students in grades 3 and older. Our club includes both boys and girls and often this dynamic allows older students to mentor younger ones. While the beginning projects are the same, each student progresses through the first 3 patterns at an individual pace. Whether students choose to knit, crochet or loom, everyone makes a dish rag, first. Then students move on to creating a pair of slippers. Sometimes, the 2 slippers end up being the same size when it's complete. This means students pay close attention to the pattern. After mastering the basic stitches, then students move on to making a hat. For those intermediate skilled students who complete the hat/beanie, they must then find their own patterns and move along asking for assistance when needed.

Ms. Craven and I learned that students receive our best help when membership is kept to a maximum of 10 students. If students are interested in joining our club next year, they can wait for the announcement in the Cardinal Connection. That announcement will contain the updated contact information regarding expressing interest, meeting days and times, as well as the meeting location. However, I'll start a waiting list if parents contact me over the summer notifying me of their child's interest.

Parents can send an email to Barbara Gayhart informing of their child's name and grade level. I'll reply to that email with the membership status, required tools and any further information.
