St. Bernadette participates in the Northern Virginia Junior Catholic Youth Organization’s basketball league, volleyball league and track program.
NVJCYO has a member organization of more than 40 parishes in the Diocese of Arlington, allowing St. Bernadette students in grades 4-8 to compete against their peers in a league that fosters teamwork, respect, sportsmanship, responsibility, leadership, and competitiveness.
St. Bernadette Catholic School along with St. Bernadette Parish has run a successful CYO Basketball program for many years for both parishioner children and students to attend and play other Catholic Schools and parishes. Boys and girls attending St. Bernadette or enrolled in the parish CCD program, in grades 3rd through 8th, are eligible. The season runs from November through mid-March. Games are played on weekends either at St. Bernadette Gym or one of several other parishes in the Diocese of Arlington.
If you are interested in basketball camps or clinics to help your child improve, here are three groups that operate in our area:
- Evolution Basketball – operates small group camps and clinics in Merrifield and sometimes in Springfield
- Ultimate Basketball Training – operates small group training off of Fullerton Road, near the Saratoga Shopping Center
- Mark Vincent Basketball Camps – operates camps during the year, many of which from local schools
Girls attending St. Bernadette or enrolled in the parish CCD program, in grades 5rd through 8th, are eligible for volleyball. Grades are grouped together as follows: 5th/6th, and 7th/8th. The season runs from mid-March through June. Games are played on weekends either at St. Bernadette Gym or one of several other parishes in the Diocese of Arlington.
The track program has a spring and fall meet, both of which take place usually at Bishop O'Connell.
