E-School
Purpose
The purpose of E-School is to enable learning to continue in the event of
an extended snow event, generally the third consecutive inclement weather day.
a significant outbreak of COVID-19 in a classroom.
a significant outbreak of COVID-19 throughout the school.
an unforeseen closure for other reasons e.g. facilities, etc.
General Schedule and Student Expectations
Pre-Kindergarten
PK does not typically participate in E-School. Because PK students are 6 feet apart, in the event of an outbreak of COVID-19 in the school, preschool may still take place in-person. This will be decided on a case-by-case basis and communicated by the Pre-Kindergarten Director. In the event of a physical closure due to inclement weather, the Saint Bernadette Campus will be closed and PK will not be held.
Grades K-5
1. Students will be in their seats ready to begin class at 8:05 am. They will be marked “tardy” if they log on after 8:05.
2. K-5 live instruction (screen time) will occur in the morning (8-12:20).
3. School-wide lunch is at 12:25-1:10.
4. The afternoon is for continued independent work, extra help on Zoom, and time to complete asynchronous PE activities.
5. Students will maintain a “Cardinal Corner,” which is an uninterrupted space to conduct learning. Students need to have strong and secure Wi-Fi connection with reliable technology. Cardinal Corners are consistent and stationary and utilized for persistent instruction (no cars, doctor’s offices, vacation, etc.)
6. Students will adhere to the dress code daily.
7. Students need to have all necessary materials in their Cardinal Corner (textbooks, folders, working technology, writing and art materials, etc.)
8. Student devices need to be positioned in a way that the teacher can see the student’s entire face and shoulders.
9. Students may eat snack only as directed by their teacher.
10. Students need to raise their hand or use the chat feature (as instructed by the teacher) to ask questions.
11. Students will not leave their Cardinal Corner for lengthy periods of time without teacher permission. If so, they will be considered absent. The acronym BRB will be used on the Chat feature to indicate a short restroom break, brain break, etc. to indicate that the student will be right back. They should add “Back” when they return. The time stamp will indicate the length of time missed -- allowing for minimal disruptions to instructional time.
12. Students will mute their microphone, turn off their camera, and not use the chat during breaks.
13. Teachers will provide stretch/brain breaks periodically throughout the day. If a student needs an unscheduled stretch/brain break, the student may ask permission to leave/turn off the camera for a period of 5-10 minutes when direct instruction is not occurring. See # 8 above.
