Library ccexpressReading for information and enjoyment are important life skills. The library program at Saint Bernadette provides students exposure to all genres of literature and contains a wide array of nonfiction books, including biographies of saints and other notable people, arts and crafts, history, science topics, and much more.

The goal of the library program is to grow readers, and we guide students to independently locate resources based on individual interests.

Beginning in Kindergarten, your student will listen to weekly stories, learn to properly handle, care for, and respect books and be incredibly excited to select and check out their very first library book! In addition, weekly read-aloud and story time for the younger grades helps to strengthen students’ oral reading fluency and to gain appreciation for the wide variety of illustrations used in reading material.

The library program also serves as a resource for middle school students to conduct research for various projects through the use of multiple sources.

St. Bernadette is fortunate to have a culturally diverse population. Our library provides materials that reflect the diversity of our community, including books based upon cultural and religious celebrations, historic events, as well as accomplishments and struggles of the various groups within our community. Our wide variety of literature helps students expand their world, learn about the geographic origin of their families, and teaches appreciation for other cultures.

New books are frequently added to the library’s collection to both expand the diversity of choices and to update the library selections with newly available series and authors.

The library program complements the classroom experience by providing reading materials relevant to classroom subject matter and by supporting early reading development.

Your child will look forward to weekly visits to the library and the opportunity to select books of choice!
